"Orders captain?" First Officer Williams said, looking to her captain anxiously, the anticipation filled the bridge. Riley sat in his chair, pondering for a moment "Perhaps we should go to the --" Williams interrupted "Sir, I'm picking up a distress call from the Aelas system, patching it through." the audio plays throughout the bridge, heavy static is heard for a few seconds followed by a gruff male voice "This is Captain Thomas O'Shea of the U.S.S. Winstead. My ship came into contact with a Romulan squadron, they over-powered us, my crew and I managed to evacuate via a shuttle but we have crash landed on Aelas, requesting pick-up." the communication ends then, "Set a course for Aelas." Goldstein ordered, he sat back in his chair, looking through the window in thought. "Roger that sir, ETA; 12 hours."
The course was locked in, now all there was to do was wait. Goldstein went to his cabin for some shut-eye. Hours later he was awaken by Williams, she stood over his bed looking down, "Captain, captain, we approach our destination." he scrambled back to consciousness, dazed he quickly climbed out of bed and accompanied Williams back to the bridge, they took their stations. Goldstein slumped back in his seat, staring at the approaching planet. "Tharyn, scan the surface for the origin of the call." he snapped at his Engineer officer. "Yes sir, scanning now.." there was a momentary pause "Captain, scanners show no sign of a distress beacon." Williams quickly interjected "Sir, we're being hailed by an unknown ship, I can't track the origin." Williams, turns to look at Goldstein, their eyes meet for a moment, he frowns at her slightly, "Patch it through." she nods quickly.
A deep, sinister sounding voice fills the bridge. "How pleased I am, that my trap has been successful. Prepare to meet your demise, Starfleet officer." the voice chuckles darkly. Goldsteins face contorts with rage, "You sonuvabitch!" the line goes dead. Riley looked around at his crew, he's met with looks of confusion and concern. "Captain, I'm picking up multiple ships incoming.. Woah. There's so many of them." Riley bolted from his chair, launching himself off his platform and over the front console, he stood against the window, scanning the area, space was dotted with a full battalion of Romulan ships, all headed this way. Riley sighed deeply, "There's no way we can win." he mutters to himself, "Orders sir?" Williams called, looking at him, her face full of concern. "All secondary power to the main gun, if we're going down, we're taking some of these bastards with us." he walks up to the back of the bridge towards the ready room. "Charging will take a few minutes captain." Tharyn informed him, Riley nods in reply before slowly walking into the ready room his expression wide-eyed.
"Hey Andorian." Williams shouted, Tharyn rolled his eyes quickly before looking to her "It's been a pleasure serving with you." she smiled sincerely, "You too Williams." the rest of the bridge crew exchanged goodbyes. Several minutes later, Riley bursts from the ready room, full of energy, he half-runs to his chair, "Are those bastards in range?" he asked, looking over to Williams, "Negative sir, but almost. I'd say we have another minute or so." she looked down to the floor. Riley climbed on top of his chair before addressing his crew; "I'm sorry I got you into this mess, I've failed each and every one of you. I let my ego get the best of me, and we're all going to pay the consequences, but before we do. I just want to say that it's been an absolute honour serving with you, we've had some rough rides, it's a shame it had to end like this. You need to know that your not just my shipmates, your my family. I'm proud of each and every one of you. I just sent word back to Starfleet. They'll make sure these bastards pay." he smirks widely, "Now let's go kick the Romulan ass." he raised his fist in the air ceremoniously, the crew imitate his action for a moment.
"Tharyn, the second they get in range, lock on and fire. Williams, take the helm." they nodded in sync', the ships thrusters activated, they slowly began to propel forward towards the on ships.
"Target locked! Firing!" the ships main gun fired rapidly, ripped through a Romulan cruiser's shield, breaching the hull. A barrage of cannon fire flew at the Claymore, it penetrated the already weakened shield with ease, piercing the hull. "Motherfu--" the fire penetrated the engine core, exploding the ship.
The crew, the captain, nothing remained of them, except the memory of their lives and the last remaining vid' of Riley Goldstein.
Riley is sat at his desk, slumped back in his chair, a forced smirk on his face. "Command, this is Lieutenant Riley Goldstein of the U.S.S. Claymore. We were on an unauthorized patrol in the Devron sectory, when we caught a distress call in the Aelas system. We went to investigate." he sighs deeply, the smirk on his face falters for a moment, "It was a trap, set up by the Roms. They came in force, wiped out my ship. Tell their families it was my fault." he clears his throat. "Those sons-of-bitches must be getting close now.." he looks towards the door, then back to the recorder. "Let Admiral Orion know that it was an honour to serve under him. Oh, and tell Z to take that pole out of her ass." he chuckles loudly then winks quickly, with one last smile he cuts the recording.
